The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka, through its National Commission for Liturgy and Culture, convened the National Liturgy Symposium 2025 from 5–7 September at the National Seminary of Our Lady of Lanka, Ampitiya, Kandy.

This important gathering took place in the wider context of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops (Synod on Synodality), reflecting on the theme: “Eucharist, Fountain of Synodality through Communion.”

The symposium was graced by the presence of His Eminence Arthur Cardinal Roche, Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and held under the patronage of His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo and Chairman of the National Commission for Liturgy and Culture.

Clergy, religious, and lay faithful from across the country participated in days of prayer, reflection, and discussion, discerning how the Eucharist — the mystery to be believed, celebrated, and lived — is at the heart of the synodal journey of the Church in Sri Lanka.

A significant milestone of the symposium was the introduction of the new Sinhala Ordo Misse, marking an important step towards greater liturgical unity and fidelity in the local Church.

The event was an important moment of communion for the local Church, renewing her Eucharistic life and strengthening her mission to walk together in unity, listening to the Holy Spirit, and bearing witness to Christ in the world.
