The Archdiocese of Colombo joyfully extends its heartfelt congratulations, prayerful best wishes, and fraternal support to Rt. Rev. Bishop Nishantha Sagara Jayamanne, SSS, on the blessed occasion of his Episcopal Ordination and Installation as the 4th Bishop of the Diocese of Anuradhapura, held at St Joseph's Cathedral, Anuradhapura on 28th February 2026.
His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, on 16th December 2025, appointed Fr. Mohottige Don Nishantha Sagara Jayamanne, SSS, a devoted member of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament (Societas Sanctissimi Sacramenti), as Bishop of Anuradhapura. This joyful appointment has now reached its fulfillment with his Episcopal Ordination, marking the beginning of his episcopal ministry.
Bishop Jayamanne was born on 25th June 1970 in Bopitiya, within the Archdiocese of Colombo, where his vocation to the priesthood was first nurtured. He pursued his philosophical and theological formation at the Our Lady of Lanka National Seminary, Ampitiya, Kandy, and was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on 13th May 2000. As a member of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, he has faithfully served the Church with dedication, guided by a deep Eucharistic spirituality.
He also obtained a Licentiate in Philosophy, further strengthening his intellectual and pastoral formation in preparation for his service to the People of God.
The Archdiocese of Colombo rejoices with gratitude to the Lord in seeing one of her sons called to the fullness of the priesthood in the episcopal ministry. His Episcopal Ordination is a moment of great pride and spiritual joy for the Archdiocese and a blessing for the Church in Sri Lanka.
The clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Colombo assure Bishop Nishantha Sagara Jayamanne of their continued prayers and fraternal support, that the Lord may grant him wisdom, courage, and abundant grace as he shepherds the faithful entrusted to his care in Anuradhapura.
